Okay IVE started to address my 312 Y Block and what I am about to say is crazy. But it looks like my engine in my F-100 1955 just might be timed wrong I know the timing starts at number one cylinder. On my distributor Block that is located on the right just left of the attach clip. And runs counter clock wise. I am assuming all Y Block series engines are timed in the same sequence? I would like to confirm that statement. I've read all the posts and decided to install the wire looms and new plug wires. My wires are numbered but are not matching up to the wires I removed some are way to.long and some are just a little short. I got the wires from a guy in Bedford Texas that makes up.wires for the Y Block 292 thru 312 Y Block engines. Very nice quality and fit the wire looms perfectly. And they are numbered at the distributor Block. Working with the wire looms are a pain with the engine installed in the truck. I have Artheritus witch makes this a little harder to accomplish. My truck would only do about 45 mph then start to cut out. I think the engine was newly rebuilt. It's so clean inside. I've pulled the valve covers the oil pan and it's really clean no sluge at all. My head oil passages are clear and pump oil. Gets everywhere with the valve cover removed they are aluminum valve thunderbird valve covers. I think my engine is off timed. I have completed a 12 volt conversion and all my electrical works. My ,oil.pressure is 40 lbs and vacuum is about 20 to 30. Runs my wipers normally I installed a Vacuum can to assist that feature. But like I say my truck is a three speed auto transmission. Not a truck tyranny. Is it possible my engine timing is off? I drove it 550 miles in the dark so it was a slow and 40 to 45 mph I felt was a safe speed. But when it got light sun on the horizon I tried to speed it up but the engine would stammer and want to stall. It a four barrel carb and criss over exhaust system. I amchanging that to duals. Another topic on that issue. My exhaust manifold was broke on the left side. I know one topic at a time. I refused to give up
!. I am going to fix this.. AJ..my Y Block firing order is 1,5,4,8,6,3,7,2. I've or have been installing the wiring looms and new plug wires. I've pulled my spark plugs and gap is .35 they are clean no carbon or say a gray color. All my plugs are about the same and I believe all plugs are firing. I also used the looms and placed the plug wires. A little confusion on the inside looms and how it attaches to the engine case. Talking about the long loom not the square loom that attaches below the exhaust manifold. I have the four barrel thunder bird intake manifold.AJ
