98 Specific Front Solid Swap - why not?
I had another brain cell fire the other day, and it made me wonder if there are any 1998 Ranger specific reasons I can not swap in a solid front axle.
Is there any reason the frame or any other parts you can think of would not hold up?
I realize this would not be a simple weekend job and mounts would have to be (well) fabricated and that all that computer junk dumped in the dipsy-dumpster*.
TIA.
* - This fits with a theoretical "plan" to dump ALL the computer stuff and stick in a carborated, points & condenser fired, v-8.

What are you trying to accomplish with the swap? Are you just trying to get rid of the PVH hubs? Here's what one guy did:

!! YES !! Rockledge, no wonder you get the big bucks !!
I had completely forgotten about that article, and it looks eminently feasible and perfectly reliable (mechanically speaking).
Oh, and yes again, the only REAL reason is to get rid of the PVH . . stuff. Heck I would even be willing to live with the $2000.00 3 inch suspension lift to keep the IFS, but the PVH was just too much for my conscience to bear.
Again, thanks Rockledge - you're a Gem.
I realize you are just kicking around some ideas right now, but if you decide to go ahead and do some kind of axle swap, be sure to keep us posted on your progress. There are quite a few people around here that would be very interested in something like that...
