I'm thinking of installing Banks headers and exhaust system for my 97 460. I spoken to them on the phone and did a lot of research as well as got good advice from the previous owner. It's going to cost right around $1500. Will this system improve my mpg significantly? Right now, I'm getting 13.8mpg. As I mentioned in another post, one of the PO's had taken out the catalytic converter and then installed 2.5" exhaust pipe. I would like to go with 4". So is this going to help to make the cost not seem so steep? Thanks!
but I also made a adapter to put a carb on, and swapped the distributor out. I can not advise on fuel mileage. But anything over 12 with a 460 is good imo.
You will never get your money out of the headers. Basically, if you want them, just buy them. Why? Because you want them. Justifying that you will get more MPG is just wishful thinking. The way I see it, you will just go faster will will cancel any benefit.

How do you like these? 1/5 the price of the Banks headers. I have the Banks intake and catback and looking at doing headers next.

wow, I’ve seen these before and wondered how good they are, considering their price, but have never heard anything about them. I didn’t think anybody had ever used them. How long have you had them?
Those knock-off headers claim 10-15hp and Banks claims 68HP from a dyno. There is no way those headers are as high quality. The stainless steel to make them would cost more than $269. Does a magnet stick to them?
Banks flange is 1/4" thicker and they will never warp. They were easy to install when the inner fenders are out of the way. I've checked the header bolts twice since install over 40k miles ago and none have loosened. If you've got the money buy the Banks.
Did you have any problems installing them, and did they have all the holes for the O2 sensor, EGR, etc? Also, do you have any pictures of them?
I’ll have to look for pictures. I installed them when I had the front clip off the truck, so that was a easy job. I capped off all the holes for 02 and EGR though. As I have a carb on the EFI intake.
Do either the Banks or the CaAuto headers actually make a noticeable difference? If neither one does then neither one is worth it to me.
If you are looking for cheap power DIY porting the heads is probably the best bang for the buck. A set of headers doesn't give a very noticeable gain like heads or a cam does so any money spent on them is basically doing more complimenting other mods. If just headers alone are installed you might be dissapointed.

problem is, I don’t know anything about porting heads haha
