Got in my '84 F-150...351HO..C-6..yesterday. Backed out.. ..started down lane and hit brake..Very little pedal..Back to garage...Opened MC..Front cavity near empty..Rear ..a bit low..Filled both up..and pedal has been correct since.. Could not find any leaks on garage floor...What is my next step ?..thanks..JV..........
I think the front one is the smaller of the 2 right?
If so that would be for the rear drum brakes, the larger front disc brakes.
If you have a good pedal now and no bad metal lines (rusted) or rubber hoses that show leaking then I would pull the rear drums and check for leaking wheel cly.
Pull back the rubber cups but if it leaked that much fluid you should see the brakes wet.
When they get really bad you will see fluid leaking out of the drum and coating the inside of the tire.
The other thing that happens is when the shoes get brake fluid on them that wheel will lock up with just a little pedal pressure.
When were the rubber lines changed out?
If never then now may be a good time to change all the rubber hoses, find & fix where the fluid went to and flush the system so you have fresh fluid in it.

I have owned this truck for 15 years. It has 121K miles. I am third owner. Right ..the front is the smaller. I have never done..or had done..any brake work since I have owned it. I will further investigate,,,thanks,,jv....PS...There are pics. on the forum. It shows the Bronco buckets and console..and another of the matching red/silver trailer..j..

How often do you drive the truck, and how long since the previous time you checked the fluid levels? Just wondering if there has been a slow leak that went unnoticed over a long period.
Can the MC leak into the booster, leaving no visible evidence? Not sure, but maybe something to consider if you find nothing else.

Karl if the rear chamber went low then I would say it leaked into the booster but I have not see the front go low and not the rear and it leaked into the booster as there is no way to fluid to go from the front to the rear chamber.

AND THE ANSWER IS. !!!..Master Cylinder leaking...New on installed...along with ....New front rotors and pads..Bearings..etc.............No more than I drive it...This should last my Grandson for a while. !..jv..
Master cylinder seals were the problem. I imagine it was the original M.C....After all that...we put new calipers on too...One piston was sticking....So...should last me..and my son's use...jv..
