It should be an option but they should be built in. I have a Honda EU7000 Watt that weighs 240 lbs. It won't fit in my truck and no place to carry it in the RV. If I want to take it someone else has to carry it. No one makes a portable version that will run TWO air conditioners. You gonna carry four Honda EU2000's to run your air conditioners? Stupid!!
Having it built in the truck would not only be convenient it couldn't be stolen either. On top of that you could have an aux fuel tank like a lot of us do that tow and run it for hours. Useful for contractors as well as farmers working in the field. They could even add welding capability to it. Which would be great for farmers, contractors and 4x4 off roaders which need to make repairs
As far as cost goes a Honda EU7000 is $5000 being built in should be way cheaper than that. On top of that If the SD has a generator that means it will be some sort of hybrid like the Powerboost so there is potential fuel savings as well
The only disadvantage i the fact that you can't go boondocking, leave the generator running and take the truck to town.
those are major negatives.
don’t you also have to have the truck running?
imagine if someone was selling the following:
a generator that forced you to run you entire truck leaving it idling at all moments you wanted it to produce power
couldnt be separated or run as stand alone….always needed the truck parked next to it and running
i think you’d have a hard time selling it
its good for a backup scenario but it sucks in an of itself as a power source
i would much prefer not idling my truck hours on end and be able to turn it off and just run a generator
If you need a 7k generator you might as well just stay at campgrounds and forget about the truck generator. My 3500w inverter can run my AC and microwave at the same time. It will run the AC for 10 hours on 3 gallons of gas. I would hate to have my truck idling in the heat for 10 hours just to run my AC.
I dont need a new vehicle every few months. I also don't need a space to come brag about my new vehicles all the time for validation.
It's too bad that he wins the ignore award. He has some good knowledge, but he thinks it is more noble to brag about being poor and homeless. We all want to exchange information, and he loves to insult.

If they copy the system from the hybrid F150 (generator and HVAC not hybrid drive system) it would be fantastic. I can run my 50A trailer off my F150 with no issues. When the draw drop below 1500w the engine turns off unless it is needed to charge the battery so most of the night the engine isn't running and when it is, its more quite than a generator. In addition, when I am at the jobsite I can run the AC at 68 degrees in 80+ degree direct sun and the engine only runs about 5-10 minutes / hr instead of my previous 2020 F150 that the engine had to run the entire time. It wasn't uncommon for me to burn 1/8+ tank of gas per day sitting at the jobsite with my 2020.
