Hello,
2006 F-350 King Ranch.
I have been looking at remote start set ups but most of the threads are older and most seem to indicate they are a difficult job.
Any opinions or experience?
I usually do all my own tricks but I decided I didn’t want to deal with it on my 2004. I left it up to the guys at Best Buy. They warranty their work. Caught a compustar unit on sale and it included the install. Not bad for about $400 (after all parts and stuff)
I have done quite a few as well as my own. Don't cheap out and go budget. Get a high rated unit that has decent warranty on it then take your time and double read the wiring info. There is a lot to consider...
ignition circuit vs accessories.
PATS system in use or not
timing from ignition on to actually start for diesels.
Timing for shut off
Do you want cold weather auto starts or not
What triggers the locks, ground or positive.
and others
And be sure to keep the wiring neat. A rats nest is tough to deal with.
If you go with a shop install, make sure they warranty their work although many wont install customers supplied unit so they want you to buy from them.
