Hi y'all! New here, but I'm here because I don't know what else to do lol. I bought my first Ford ever, almost 2 years ago. It's a 7.3 powerstroke 4x4 with a current 326k miles. When I bought it, it had an oil leak. Previous owners did not know a damn thing about working on cars, much less a diesel, and I've already spent about 10k on it fixing their mistakes. Anyway.... the oil leak. My mechanic figured out he needed to use sealant instead of the gasket he was using, and that kept it from leaking for about 2 months. And then I got the turbo and injectors upgraded, and here we are two weeks later, and it's leaking again. It's dripping down the oil filter. My mechanic replaced the oil filter housing, keeps trying different brands of oil filters, and now we are both losing our minds trying to figure out why it won't stop. Anyone else have this problem and fixed it permanently? My big green monster
My oil leak has just been resolved. I had numerous locations leaking including the oil pan. To fix the oil pan leak required removing the engine. That required lifting the body to remove the engine. Since we went that far, I replaced the body mount bushings and the fuel tank sending unit. All of the engine exterior components were replaced except the turbo.
I’ve learned that leaks are common on these engines. For transparency, I had a local shop do the repairs as I don’t have the expertise, tools, or place to do repairs.
So far she’s been drip free since April 3.
I would suggest posting on the FTE 7.3 thread. Lot’s of very knowledgeable and helpful folks there. Also there’s a ton of YouTube videos about leaks on 7.3’s.
one thought you might check that comes to mind many people don’t check are the plugs on the ends of the heads.

After reading your post again, I would suggest looking at the oil cooler. It sits just below the exhaust manifold on the driver side and made up of three components. There's a casting from the block to the front and from the rear of the oil cooler tube. There's a gasket between the castings and block, and the oil cooler itself is a cylinder sealed with o-rings to the castings. Your oil filter is attached to the rear casting to the block. I suspect your leak could be from the rear oil cooler casting.

It sure would be nice to get a picture from the front of the oil filter under the oil cooler casting and from other angles. It's tight up in there!
I might also suggest trying a Motorcraft OEM filter. Something as simple as using OEM parts can provide piece of mind. I try to use OEM for every replacement part when available. I've kept most everything on my truck OEM when possible. Including silly parts like filters. Upgrades are great, sometimes beneficial but I'd rather be safe. A great deal has gone into engineering these engines so I figure who am I to question. Just my humble opinion.
Here's another resource you might want to review and they speak about many types of leaks. I notice they show an oil filter with drips very similar to yours;

I posted more pics on my post in the 7.3 thread. The filter will be replaced with a Motorcraft FL1995 soon, just found some, but also going to clean with carb cleaner as suggested on the other thread.
