Post Vin Help - 1973 Grumman Olson Step Van

Looking for a little help decoding a vin on a recently purchased 1973 Grumman Olson Step van. It has a 10 Digit vin, which i can only find relative info on 1940's fords ;/ Simply hoping to get some basic info on the truck.

Vin : P4OAL58673

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to FTE!

The VIN issued by Ford, which it appears this one was, would be 11 digits for this model year.

As best I can do:

P40 = P400 Parcel delivery chassis

A = 240 1V six cylinder in line gas engine

L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant

Looks like you are missing a letter ahead of 58673. All serialized numbers for model year 1973 are prefaced with a letter, in the range of Q to S.

For model years '73 to '79, all serialized numbers in the VIN are prefaced with one or two letters.

You may have a warranty tag riveted to the body, possibly on the dash or firewall that has the VIN and axle, trans and other info coded on to it.

The VIN has 11 digits thru 1980, you missed the letter that precedes 5 or the 5 may be an S and you dropped one of the following numbers.

P40 = P400 Parcel Delivery Chassis.

A = 240 1V I-6.

L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant.

XXXXXX = This decodes to the year.

The Warranty Plate has far more info. On P350/400/500, it's riveted to the right (passenger) side of the radiator support.
