I just bought a 2019 F350 SD XL, dually w/6.7diesel motor. I bought it in another state where I used to live and will be going to pick it up in a few weeks. The truck does not have cruise control and I want to add it before my 3500 mile drive. I have repeatedly called 3 dealerships in the area to get a quote and it has become clear that they are not interested in even returning my calls. So now I hope to be able to find a steering wheel with the CC buttons on it and just swap it out myself and use Forscan. My question is this, depending on availability with whatever the local junkyards have in stock, is the 350 steering wheel compatible with the F250 or even the F150's? I cannot find a definitive answer online. Also are there any other sensors that need changed out in addition. I thought I saw somewhere that either the brake or gas pedal switch would need to be changed. Ive only seen a little info from people who have done this, but this does not seem like a normal item that people request. Its almost like Ford went out of their way not to install it from the factory. This is my first vehicle ever not to have it and I aint that young anymore.
There have been lots of threads on cruise control being added to Superduty trucks. From what I've read here, all you need is the switch block installed in your steering wheel and Forscan to program the truck. Nothing else is required except searching the forum for the procedure.
You would need to download Forscan and license it or find somebody with it. Then there is the C.C. switch assembly to purchase. An auto accessories shop or auto electrical shop should be equipped to do this simple upgrade.
My first SD, a '20 had all the maximum towing and payload, yet the dealer forgot to add a trailer brake controller. I downloaded Forscan, lifetime licensed it for $50 I think and then installed the switch in a few minutes. Total cost was less than $175 and less than an hour invested. I picked out a Bluetooth OBDII adapter on Amazon for $34 and it works fine.
Back in the 70's added cruise control to a Chevy LUV It worked great. Today I Did a google search and found https://www.thecruisecontrolstore.co...xoC3QQQAvD_BwE
A unit that claims to work with electronic throttle contorl. Might be a cheaper, easier alternative to your application
I finally was able to speak to the parts guy and the service guy. They were pretty sure it just needs the buttons and CC activated. Should be under $500 which is more than I would like to pay but given my limited time and other circumstances it's far better than I was anticipating. I'll try to post an update after the work is done for any other poor soul that could use the information.
So the Ford service guy looked at my truck and after consulting the parts guy, he was at a loss. He said there is wiring for cruise control but there are 3 steering wheel choices and seven module choices and they have no idea which parts or combination of parts they would need. Since this would quickly get pricey, I'm just gonna try the rostra c.c. I'm guessing I just just leave it unplugged from the obd2 port when I don't need it since I will need the port for something else the majority of the time.
