Hello,
first time in this forum. purchased a non running 1973 ford, 2wd 360 VIN. someone has put 4 bbl and headers on this truck. so far....
1. new spark plugs from prior owner - looked like they never ran
2. removed pentronix ignition and put points back in
3. new ignition coil
4. was able to get it running but when timed "correctly" (10 btdc) it knocks VERY badly and will not stay running
5. we plugged the vacuum ports on the manifold and under the holley carb
6. if advanced by 20-30 degrees the engine will run smooth but it still sounds like at least one knock
Any thoughts on what else to check before ripping into the cam and removing the engine to check rods
Bring your timing marks to TDC and make sure its on the compression stroke and see where the rotor is pointing.
You can remover the #1 spark plug and crank the engine over with your flinger blocking the spark plug hole to find TDC #1.
