Starters What fits What?
I currently own a 1989 E250 club wagon van with the E4OD tanny. My starter is not good and I would like to replace it. I checked a few web sites and the starters all list the same part number for the mitsu starter all the way from 87-03. My father was able to snag me a starter off a cooked truck 01 with a 7.3 PSD from his work but the starter does not fit my 7.3 IDI. The bendex is too short to engage the flywheel. Why do the parts listing show the same starter and yet it does not appear to work on these engines? What is the correct version that will fit my application. I beleive my current starter is a delco.

The P/Strokes are different, not sure what listing you have showing them to be the same. As long as you get one for an indirect engine it should fit. Some starter shops are stocking a replacement new starter for the early trucks that is smaller and is similar to the P/S unit, but the gear is still different.
