got some hedman fenderwell exit headers and it comes w/ protective temporary paint meant to be burned off.
trying to do this economically, so probably not going to media blast and cerakote these.
how do i best get the temporary paint off before applying a high heat spray on paint?
do I install the headers, run the engine for a while, then remove and repaint?
brush on some paint stripper, rinse, and repaint?
wire brush the coating off?
Any of them will work. Burning off from exhaust heat is the easiest, but getting fender exits back in freshly painted might end up with a scratch. I did it without issue that way so don't be scared, and you can always touch them up once installed.
The header paint has a procedure to follow with heat cycles. Don't miss that part.
update
tried dot 3 brake fluid first...no luck. took off some of the paint but clear that it wasn't going to work.
then tried torching an area. took at least 3min w/ the torch in the same spot before paint burned off (I know, yellow torch burns hotter, but blue is what I had on hand).
finally used a citrus paint stripper, painted on, let sit for 24h, then scrubbed most of the paint off w/ a rough scotch brite pad.
as expected, started rusting right away, so put a layer of brake fluid on again until i'm ready to paint.
will clean thoroughly w/ brake clean and acetone just before painting.
also lots of nooks where I wasn't able to get to the paint that i'll likely try burning off w/ the torch.

FYI,,,
I believe if you do a little research you will find that A BLUE FLAME IS MUCH HOTTER THAN YELLOW...
Nice looking headers..I always like FW headers.

I was referring to the color of the bottle, not the flame. A MAP torch burns hotter and comes in a yellow bottle. The blue bottle was what I had on hand.
Hey 77HOS,, Florida
Surprised to see your picture 77 4x4.
I was born and raised in Tampa and in 77 purchased a truck that was exactly like yours with a 4 spd. (loved that color) either from Bill Currie or Northgate Ford in Tampa.
Sure brings back a lot of memories looking at your truck. That was one of the best trucks I have owned.
Very Nice..
