What is the best way to get a 25+ year stuck front spindle loose without destroying something? It's off my 85 bullnose F350, anyone's guess when the last time it was off.
sorry, 4X4, it's the spindle that you have to remove to get to the ball joints and remove the axle.
I would use a ballpeen hammer and strike the flange between the studs. If you hammer on the spindle, nuts use a brass hammer or wood and be careful not to damage the spindle. It looks like the surface is deformed in two places
. Check the inner surface where the seal rides to make sure it's not sharp which could damage your seal.
i agree. a combination of heat on the surface between the studs, a 5 pound lump hammer, and penetrating oil should break it free.
although i have had to also use a thin flat chisel between the spindle and mounting surface on a few break them free.
