I see your point but many big trucks, although they have more oil than our 6.7s, way more oil, that run 10w30 oil. I'm no expert on oil viscosity but just commenting on what I've read when looking into it.
The beauty of a 10W30 is that it can be produced with a conventional base oil whereas a 5W40 has to be produced with a synthetic base oil so that 10W30 will be cheaper and both provide similar fuel economy advantages over a 15W40. Having said that if the T6 10W30 costs is similar to the T6 5W40; which I'm assuming it is, I don't see an advantage for our 6.7PSD.

But for a guy like me who daily drives his truck and isn't working the engine hard, 10w30 works for me...
If I ever started pulling a big @$$ camper or moved somewhere where maybe it was getting wicked hot like hotter than here in WNY, fat chance , then I would burn 5w40. But I do have 4 gallons of T6 5w40 sitting in my basement because NAPA had them on sale. Maybe I'll buy another set at one point just because...
And maybe I'll have to run it during the hot weather to see how the numbers come out compared to the 10w30 I've been running...
