Motor is dying at idle all the time. Once started with a little gas to get it into gear it runs great! Good hpop, 18 PW, fuel pressure 65, clean air filter, 4K on fuel filters, new oil, no codes except 0238 which I have all the time. Winter before this last one I replaced ICP, IPR and CPS. No leaks that I can see, pulled 18K 5er 900 miles in the last four days with no problems. This one has me stumped but of course it doesn't take much. Any ideas what to check for next anybody? Thanks!

18K? Dang. That’s a lot, I was pulling 14k with a dump trailer this weekend - my tranny started to leak fluid 😆 when I hit 3rd gear the truck was lugging too much so I was shifting it manually

Yep, that was it, man do I feel better! I tried to explain to my wife what the purpose of that thing is and I fell short trying to explain it, lol.
Daniel, this is a nice 5er but just out the door at the factory it weights 14K. I resort to manually shifting alot. Watching EGT's on a hill when I'm down to 60mph I hit the 'noise button'. When I'm down to about 45mph I pull it into second. Yesterday I got trapped behind trucks and the passing lane was full so for the second time in 15 years I had to pull it down into first gear!

yeah. It seems like manually shifting helped me out a lot. I want a tune or something that will hold rpm longer
My PHP tune works great. For many many years I begged tuners to up my shift points and I finally got such a good tune I never change my hydra now. This tune has lower shift points and power for city driving but over 50% throttle it then raises the shift points and pours on the power. I like it for city and towing.

yeah. I’m thinking about getting a hydra soon. The edge revolver similar to a ts6 doesn’t seem to change shift points. Do you know which tune you’re running?
Man I am glad it was an easy fix. That tin nut can be pesky
and to be fair your truck is a good walk from stock. It makes plenty of grunt to pull that big 5er around this beautiful country. Safe travels as you motor on!

PHP just called it a performance tune?!

The old tin nut got me for the first time. I told my wife that all my reading over the past many years paid off and I thought to look. Actually my first post just typing it out was a good exercise because it got me thinking, I hardly posted it and just thought of it and out the door I went.

Broke on the highway is a nightmare to me. Once I threw a pulley (thank God it missed the radiator) and as I walked by smiling my wife thought I was happy to work on my pickup, HA. I told her I was smiling because I had a spare part, never happy to work on the pickup on the side of the road!!
