Coolant additive

Just bought a f250 with the 6.7. Says you need to add a coolant additive. Never heard of this before, what are they talking about? Also, is there a best fuel additive for this truck?

coolant or fuel additives? Your sentence has both.

Fuel additives, be careful and be sure it is compatible with diesels. Need or not is really your choice. Be careful not to let the little piece of the cap fall into the tank. The white piece that is the inner seal of the lid tends to fall into the tank and then you have issues blocking the pick up tube.

As far as coolant additives, we need to know what year your truck is. Early 6.7's required some coolant testing and then perhaps some additive. This was dropped later with newer coolants.

There is a coolant Rejuvinator for the earlier 6.7L engines. You can add it up to three times After that you need to replace the coolant.
Also the coolant in those earlier 6.7L was good for 105,000 miles then should replace it and again every 50,000

What is considered earlier model year for this?

I don't know if a 2017 is an early model, but I took a screen shot of my manual. I use the Orange Coolant in my truck. At the five year mark I just flushed out all the old orange coolant and added new orange to the system.

6.7l Powerstroke 2011 - July 2018 = Orange Coolant that requires testing.
Test Strips - Ford Rotunda 328-071ELC
Orange Coolant Revitalizer Motorcraft VC-12

6.7l Powerstroke July 2018 - Present = Yellow Coolant that does not require testing.

My suggestion............Don't bother with the test strips or revitalizer if the truck has 100k+ on it. It's better to flush/drain and fill with the new Yellow Coolant and distilled water, the new coolant is backwards compatible with the Orange Coolant so they can be mixed. It's advised to remove as much of the Orange Coolant as possible.

That's a loaded question, just like what's the best brand of oil to use. Some don't use any additives and have no issues. US Diesel Fuel has less lubricity than European Fuel which is what the Bosh CP4 HPFP is designed to operate with. It's not a bad idea to use an additive that increases Lubricity to keep the CP4 happy. If you want in increase cetane or use anti-gel during the winter months that all personal preference.

^^^ ditto, the P-OAT coolant (VC-13G) is good stuff I would just flush and run that.
