If you don't need a truck trans like the NV 4500 or the ZF-5, then go for the car trans like the Tremec TKO from places like Modern Drivelines, etc.
What do you mean by "need a truck trans?" I'm contemplating a T5 swap as well (since I have one laying around) but have been hesitant because of comments like this. Are the transmission that were originally on these trucks rated for more torque? Towing?
What is the intended usage for your truck? A cruiser, a light garbage hauler, or a heavy hauler/tower? If a heavy hauler/tower, then a T-5 won't cut it as it is a car (Mustang, T-bird, Camaro) or a mini-truck trans (used in the S-10). It doesn't have a low 1st gear to enable a heavy load/tow to get started unless you slip the clutch, but you won't have a clutch soon. The S-10 had a gvw up to 4700 lbs. The F-100 started at 4500. A light/medium duty truck trans can carry and tow much heavier weight than a car/mini-truck trans.
Ah! That makes total sense! My mind always processed it as "the T5 will blow up if you put it in an F100," and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why, if it's behind a 302, just like it is in my Mustang. Its not so much that the T5 can't handle the power/torque, but rather doesn't have enough gear to get the truck going!
Hey guys I got the engine set in and now I'm looking for the clutch fork boot. I order one from napa that said it was correct and it is way to small the bellhouseing is for the 400 obviously. Anyone know the part number?
