(Hey! I noticed I can put a title in now without it jumping to here now! PATCHED! )
I am curious what others are using for their pin box. When I bought my Arctic Wolf, I had added a Reese Sidewinder so I could tow with my short bed. While it gave me exceptional backing ability beyond 90*, the wedge did not fit the 5th wheel like it should even though it is the correct one. Made for terrible handling as the pinbox would shift side to side and cause the truck to track back and forth. Between that and some rust issues and others, I descided to replace the truck and now have an F-450 so the Sidewinder is no longer needed. I have it locked in place now and the wedge removed so it acts as a standard pin box. I still have the original one, which is just the basic pin box, but rather than swap them out, I was wondering what others use for a pin box that helps with the ride and everything. I am not looking to convert to goose neck, so please don't suggest it, just looking at pinbox for the 5th wheel.
Since I have other gooseneck trailers, I went with the goosebox for my 5th wheel and it's butter smooth with that airbag inside. But since you don't want to go that route, I'd look at the Morryde cushioned pinbox or the Gen-Y hitch.
That first one seems like a decent job, price is not as much as I thought it might be, the Gen Y I have seen video reviews, but one of the cons is the height, and since I have an F-450, it will be pretty high as it sits now. I could probably Craigslist the Sidewinder and get enough for the Moryde.
I will know more once I actually take our trip in 2 weeks whether it needs a cushioned pin box or not. It did very little chucking with the other truck, but there was also plenty of slop fore and aft as well as the side to side play.
I have the Gen Y Executive (King pin non goose neck) and have found it great to tow with. I believe it is better then my trailair that I had on a different 5th wheel and the moryde that I had on the current 5th wheel. I would recommend any Gen y 5th wheel hitch.
My Grand Design came with the Moryde cushioned pinbox and it is not going to give you a noticeable i.provement from any other pinbox. I switched it out for a Gen-Y Executive goosebox and have about 30k miles on it. If you are dead set on keeping a king pin Gen-Y has a 5th wheel pinbox also. There have been very few times anything has been shifted around in my camper and the times that it has are because of atrocious roads that no pinbox could dampen.
TheGen-Y along with my airbags makes it so I do not get all the road feedback through the trailer and pushed into my truck they are independent of each other to an extent.

That's an interesting point of view. I went to the MorRyde cushioned pinbox and it made a big different in the reduction of fore/aft jerking motion in the truck. We love ours.

I'm working with 4k lbs pin weight and a 17k lb trailer. There was a night and day difference between the 2. I dont feel the trailer unless it is a pretty big bump. Grand Design puts the MorRyde pinbox on the Momentums that have a 20k GVWR I can imagine the difference would be even more noticeable with 3k more lbs and more tongue weight.

I'm only 11.5 K and less than 2 K pin. Maybe that is the difference.
I will know as I head out on our first trip this Saturday if I need a cushioned PB. At some point I need to remove the Sidewinder and sell it and put a proper pinbox on. When I got the trailer I got the original PB, but they didn't include the bolts (they also installed the Sidewinder bolts backwards).
