HPOP line fitting O-ring concern

This site has helped me so much indirectly, so first and foremost...

thank you!! you guys are the best!

Alright, so here's the sitch: about 6 months ago I decided to replace my HPOP lines since mine were the originals and starting to look pretty frayed... and based on what I read online, it definitely left an impression on me regarding the unpleasantness of blowing a line.

So after a lot of swearing and sweating, I got the new lines installed. The hoses themselves are of extremely high quality, and the fittings have been great and sealed tight, despite not using Loctitie.

I apologize for the photos cause it's kinda hard to see, but the O-ring is a teal color and the issue is that it appears to be coming out of the fitting. Still haven't had any leaking, I'm just wondering if this is something I should just leave alone? Or would it be a better idea to drain the pump and pull fitting/replace O-ring, as well as add Loctite this time?

I am still a pretty novice home mechanic, so any questions/comments/concerns I'm all ears! Even some good natured ribbing as long as it's constructive

Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing your answers!

If it's not leaking yet it will be soon enough. I'd go ahead and order your replacements and a little bottle of the thread sealant so you're prepared. If it starts leaking it shouldn't be catastrophic or anything. Nothing like a hose failure, but performance will drop maybe get a code or 2.

Welcome to FTE! This is a fantastic place to be!

Quick question, did you by chance go with hydraulic style hoses (typically off ebay or amazon) instead of the standard braided steel? If so, they may be fine but, I had issues with mine (hydraulic style from ebay) after only a couple years. Just a fair warning that the hydraulic style hoses don't hold up as well in the environment in our engine valleys. I had to get new fittings shortly after I got my set. They worked for about 3 years but I had on and off leaking through that time and alot of cursing with them. I kept them after replacing them with CNC Fab hoses and use them and their fittings in my hpop test kit.

Also, those kits usually come with a oil crossover line connecting the heads under and infront of the turbo. If you did get that hose as well(assuming you got a hydraulic hose kit) then you may want to leave that hose off. Alot if guys like them but alot of guys hate them as it is just another potential leak with no actual proven gain for having it installed.

If you didnt get the hydraulic style hoses, ignore all of that stuff👆 I just couldn't tell from the pic what style hoses you went with. Best I can see is it looks just like the same hoses I had. Here are the ones I bought 3 years ago and had terrible luck with.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/182003021559?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=z3vwbPmFTO-&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=RuKrJo8jSc2&var=&widget_ver=a rtemis&media=COPY

And a pic if you dont want to click the link.

That will surely leak soon. I personally ordered a 7.3 "toolbox" oring kit from diesel orings. Comes with pretty much every known common leak for fuel, oil, turbo, etc. Very nice kit to keep on hand. O have used most of the entire kit over the last 3 years after buying a 399k mile truck. Here is a link if your interested.

The only time I have ever seen teal o-rings is on the AC system.

Yeah they are likely HNBR o rings, they work well enough. If remembering right they are a little more durable than viton but viton has a slightly higher temp rating. I've used them in a pinch more than once and actually kind of prefer them somewhat. They have a firmer texture and don't tear nearly as easy as viton, but if the application is high heat then viton is the better choice.

Already loving it! And yes I did go with the Hydraulic hoses, I got them off Amazon. I did quite a bit of research and found that there was a 30 to 40 dollar range of hoses that had mediocre reviews (looking similar to the one in picture you posted) then there was a step up group in the 80-100 dollar range that even made note to avoid the cheaper knock offs, so I went with those. Not to say more expensive automatically equals better quality, but in this case it seems true, cause these hoses are beefy and very stiff/difficult to bend.

I know because of how much of a pain in the *** it was to bend them in position to properly install... rage. RAGE. On the plus side doing this installation introduced me to crows feet wrenches, which are flippin' awesome. Spent more time than I would care to admit trying to finagle a wrench onto the fittings while still having room to actually move it.

Here is a link to the hoses I bought if you're curious:

I paid 100$ for the ones I bought. They were very high quality hose but the problem i had was from fittings leaking. I never had a problem with the hoses. The hoses should last years to come. You just might have to replace a fitting or 2 at some point. Just a fair warning

I went ahead and replaced them when I bought my stage 1 CNC fab HPOP. Jusg replaced them while i was in there.

I cut a wrench short so i could turn it in the tight sapces

Just be wary of the fittings for oil leaks. I hope you have a long, leak free service life out of them!

I am definitely keeping an eye on them for sure! As soon as I have a couple days where I don't have to go anywhere I'm gonna drain the pump, pull the fittings and replace orings with actual Viton ones as well as Loctite the fittings in this time.

The awful installation process taught me the valuable lesson of running far away anytime I see broken English in the product advertisement. The hoses I bought, the companies suggestion for how to install?

"Try and explore, don't use brute force."

Ah, I forgot to EXPLORE. Of course! Samsonite! I was way off!!

Annnnd while torquing the fitting back in for some reason my torque wrench was like "not clicking today bruh" and I went too tight and damaged the thread on the fitting as well as the thread in the HPOP port.

So my buddy flipped around the fitting because the part thats supposed to plug into hose is longer and catches on HPOP threads when shorter side won't, but now where the hose is plugged into the shorter side of the fitting it leaks badly. This was after I attempted to start truck with fitting in proper way, which due to not being threaded on enough, it whipped off with such force that it completely obliterated my ICP.

Even with his Jerry rig set up, I still couldn't get truck to turn over, and had to leave it at his house for the night due to it being too late at night to be cranking as much as necessary to purge air out

I am so far beyond furious right now, I dont even know what next step I should take but ideally I would like it to be one where the fitting gets flipped around because at least then its on the proper way

We are going to hit to hardware store tomorrow and hopefully find something we can use..

Suggestions please, I need help. Badly.

k

Stripped threads in the pump, ouch. The only good options are to replace it or repair it. One other possibility comes to mind but I don't even know if anybody makes one. Are you familiar with a bulkhead fitting? I know the are available in jic but orb doesn't seem to be turning up anything useful. Other than that, I got nothin,

Timesert makes a -06 orb thread repair insert...I suspect its the one the CNC Fab probably uses in their HPOP builds.

At the cost of that kit, and actually utilizing it, one would be better off to just buy a cncfab stage 1 hpop with the inserts already in, and fully rebuilt/tested
