It's a small fleet; I'm sure the 6.8 (though unproven) will be a fine powerplant since it shares most of it's parts and design with the 7.3 but the 7.3 is, well, better.....but the biggest thing is the "lighter duty" 10spd - for the small premium for the 7.3 you get the 10R140 which, while not perfect, has proven to be pretty reliable I think.....maybe the "baby SD 10spd" will be the greatest tranny Ford has ever built....or not.
Dave
Im sure people would jump at the chance to get the 7.3, but in XL trim, ford decided to put the 7.3/10r140 behind the new STX package that adds 8k or so on top of the cost of the 7.3.
if yo don’t believe me, go build an XL, and see how much cost is added when you add 7.3.

Thats why I went 6.8L in the four new trucks I ordered. Upcharge x4 and some other unwanted features also.
Never been a first model year guinea pig but Ford seems to have gotten it right the last few generations. Revised 6.2L engine and new 6R100 transmission introduced for 2017 a success, 7.3L engine and 10R140 transmission introduced for 2020 a success. Ill take a chance, plus the trucks wont be mine for long anyway... not that I want to see the buyer of my business with four problems in their new fleet.

Oh, I believe you but we decided to go XLT anyhow.

fingers crossed. I do like the xl off road package a lot so if the 6.8 turns out to be at least as durable as the 6.2, that would be fine.

It is a beastly expensive package but the package is about 5,100 and the rest of price over a base 6.8 xl is from 4x4, the 7.3, and a beefier trans. Stupid they didn't make 7.3 available w/o the stx. I bought one and and I think it's ridiculous but I got a deal and got a 7.3 stx for about 55k which is 2,500 less than a 6.8 stx msrp w/no options.

I wish the FX4 package included the “WATER FORDING VENT TUBES” on the transfer case and axles and the “UNIQUE FRONT AIR DAMS” that are included in the XL Off Road and Tremor packages.

I've never looked at my vent tubes and I dont plan on FORDing any water anytime soon but has anyone been able to get a picture of the difference between standard vent tubes and the Tremor/off road package XL vent tubes? If they are just rubber hose like fuel hose you can get that stuff pretty cheap from a rubber supply place.

Fording water is something go out of my way to do either but it would have been nice and not cost Ford much just to include them in the FX4 package.
