The first time a dealership ordered a '62 with "special equipment". That's all, nothing specific, your guess is as good as mine. These metal tags have survived for decades, the most important document which states what the special equipment was, contained in the blue letters, never seem to survive.
What is a reasonable offer on a running wrongbed project? Needs some brake work. Has been sitting. Limited rust. Wrong seat, wrong wheels, not too cobbled otherwise. Good title.
The R code in VIN# is an indication it was assembled at the San Jose assembly plant ( actually in the town of Milpitas just north of SJ). Usually the first 2 digits in the DSO area of the tag stand for the District, but that was done after mid '62. This photo (courtesy Fordification) should explain it, '61 and early '62's were not stamped with a district code. So in this case, this '62 4x4 was the #101 built for the year with special equipment by San Jose assembly.
