Ok. So I went an picked up a parts stash of parts that had been in the guys garage for 25 years for my sons 78. A lot of it was NOS including a driver door, front aluminum grille, inner front fender wells, window sweeps, seals, arm rests etc. He had two 8ft bedsides he claimed were bought through ford but the stickers were unreadable. Is there anyway to tell if they are NOS? The metal measures around 18-19 Gauge. I also noticed holes stamped through the end that I don't see in the aftermarket pics but thought maybe part of the pic was cut off. Or maybe the NOS sides came without the holes and this is a old reproduction? I don't know. Any help is appreciated on a way to id them one way or the other if possible. Thanks

Post pictures of the stickers. // Is there a part number stenciled on the inside of the quarter panels? Similar to this: D7TZ-9927841-D
There are two types of Styleside left quarter panels (bedsides): 1973/76 have exposed fuel caps .. 1977/79 have fuel doors.
When I got mine they did have the Ford boxes with a sticker from the dealer they were ordered from but were pretty trashed so I pitched them. I wouldn't worry about them, just use them. They should be fine when sanded and cleaned up.

yes my plan is to strip them completely, clean the surface rusted spots and epoxy prime both sides before installing

The black primer is correct for NOS .. The Taiwanese sheet metal that first arrived in the US in 1979 wasn't primered black. It was horrible crap, didn't fit the cars/trucks properly.
But it was cheaper than the genuine parts. Some insurance companies insisted on it.
Spot welds don’t use holes. Rosette welds do, I wouldn’t expect those coming from the factory.
Spot weld are done either with a special spot weld gun that clamps under pressure and welds from both sides so you don't need a hole, or if it's using a single point welding gun, there needs to be a hole through the top panel to weld through to the panel it's getting welded to. A rosette weld is generally a larger hole where you need to run the weld around to get it to fill.
Are they supposed to be welded? On my bed there's bolts going through all those holes holding everything together. This bed was redone, at least once, before I got it so who knows what they did, I could see someone without a welder doing it.
