About a week & a half ago, the TPMS system showed a warning message about a possible fault. I had been driving 55-60 for 20 minutes. Then warning message went off but the low tire pressure symbol stayed on. Another 25 minutes of driving and then the truck wasn't driven for about 2 hours. No warning lights when I started it but again after about 20 minutes, the same process occurred. I've driven the truck a couple of times since then but have not received any warning lights regarding the system and/or tire pressure. Could this have been just a glitch for some reason? There is adequate pressure in the tires; currently running 60 lbs of the 65 max so the ride is a little softer and typically doesn't cause the low pressure light to come on.
SO the TPMS is set to 65 and has a 5psi window, you dropped just below the window when the tires warmed and expanded, then they cooled and tightened up raising the psi. Run 65psi or use something like Forscan to adjust the tpms down to 60.
Didn't realize the window was only 5psi for a low pressure indication; thought it was a greater difference. However, even if the psi dropped below the 5 psi window, it should have just triggered a low tire pressure, not a fault with the system. Any thoughts on what triggered the two system fault warnings that hasn't appeared again?
That I'm not really sure of. In winter I put on the winter tires, they have no TPMS sensors. The dash normally bitches about low pressure, but occasionally, it will go to a TPMS system fault then minutes later goes back to low pressure. How is it low pressure if you have ZERO ability to even monitor???? To me I should have a fault full time all winter, not a low pressure. To me a fault should indicate I know the transponder I'm looking for, and its not there.
On my trip last month from Miami to PigeonForge, I got the system fault warning several times. Not a low pressure alert. Same as described, TPMS light came on with a chime and a message in the center display about the TPMS Fault. Pressing the OK button silenced the chime and cleared the display but the TPMS light stayed on for a while, then turned off.
Just an update. Discussed issue with service manager recently when I had my oil changed. Ended up having new sensors installed. Service manager showed me one of the originals; they had really started to deteriorate badly.
