I apologize for how long this is but Im stumped. 4/99 build F250 SD CC 4x4. Never had a controller in it till I bought it. Did have the factory 4 wire plug which worked as It should, and 7 wires tagged by FMCO for a future 7 way install. Installed a tekonsha controller and pigtail to go to the factory wires from the new controller for this truck from etrailer. Correct me if im wrong here. The ford factory plug was up and to the right of the lower dash fuse panel. Not easy to get at with meat hook hands. Plug the pigtail in, hook up and mount the controller, easy doins.
I later find out on this truck I have to install a 30 amp maxi fuse for the controller power and 12v to trailer if wanted. I install a 30 amp to location 28 IIRC and get a little arc of spark. Hum, dont seem right. Fire it up, Hit the brake pedal or slide over the controller manual activator and no light on the thing. Shut it down, key off etc., and I I'm getting a constant 2.9 volts at the controller pin at the plug. All the others are 0 volts. I pull that 30 amp maxi controller fuse and I still get 1.7 volts at the controller pin. Parasitic voltage from the brake switch even when the truck is off and key out or? Bad controller? I surrender and Im stumped.
