2001 F250 brake controller?

Did all F250s with the towing package come with the plug receptacle under the dash to just "plug and Play" with a brake controller or was it something you had to specifically order?

I am asking because my new purchase is still in the dealer's shop and I haven't been able to actually climb under the dash yet. I'm trying to figure out how hard it will be to put the brake controller in it. I know it came with the 7 pin connector plug under the bumper, just trying to figure out how hard it will be to get power to my trailer brakes.

I don't know about the 2001 having the plug and play like the new ones but all you will need for your controller is to run a hot wire to a fused 12 volt source and then run a ground and then run a wire from your controller to your 7 wire connector plug at the back of your truck that is labeled for trailer brake. That should be all you need to do. Good luck.

If Biscayne doesn't have the controller connector under the dash, he's also going to have to run a wire to the controller for the brake signal.

So I take it you could actually get a towing package without having the connection for the brake controller under the dash huh? I really wanted it to be a 5 minute thing, I've gotten so hyped up about the Tecunsha Prodigy controller, I want instant gratification. If it comes to splicing into the factory harness, I'll have to take it to someone else to do it. (That whole "the truck is to nice to start backwoods engineering it" thing).

I just looked at camping worlds web site and they show a connector for Fords with towing package. Only one part # so to me it looks like all the fords would take the same one. So if you have the tow package to me it looks like you should just be able to plug in under the dash and be ready. Good luck!!

The following is from rjays.com -

"#3035 O.E.M. Style Wire Harness for Ford models equipped with trailer tow option. Harness includes Ford connector, 3ft. leads and connector for hook-up to Tekonsha® ProdigyTM Brake Control.
Fits:
94-05 - F-Series, E-Vans, Explorer (w/trailer package), Expedition (w/trailer package).
(It is recommended on all F250/F350 to run separate ground if the factory ground is connected to the fire-wall)"

From this, I'm ASSUMING you have the connector.
