Hey all. Have a 99 F250 7.3L using as a work truck. Wanting to plug in a gps device to track the miles through the obd2 port. Not getting power and after doing some digging the fuse was blown. Put a new one in and it pops right away. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of experience diagnosing electrical problems or tracing shorts. Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Without looking at a diagram, I am fairly certain the OBDII port shares a fuse with the 12v power port. You could get to the harness/connector behind the power port and disconnect it to see if that changes anything.
First, try to verify this fuse share via the manual or a search on the FTE.
You may have a frayed wire shorting itself under or behind the dash. You could also try to visually inspect the wires from the two areas, but unless you get lucky will likely need a multimeter.
