Hi Guys I bought a 2009 F150 with a bad 5.4. I am taking it out now to evaluate. I have seen lots of 2000-2010 F150's for sale for parts on FB marketplace. I haven't been able to see what engines could be swapped into the 09. I know there are differences in the mounting of alt etc, and the intake, but deep down are they all the same?? Or which years would work? Thanks, Greg. Just found a 07 with a rusted frame.
I don't think you really want that 07 in your trk ?? (older style problem engines !!) You will need a late 2008 engine build ... The magic month being Oct......Fast /Easiest way way to tell is to look @ the numbers on the coil pak tops........New style engines will start with 8L somethink (not 3L )....Look @ a few coil paks in case someone has used a 3L as a replacement...I have only replaced the 4.6 engines & the only difference was the oil filter housing which you can replace with your original housing... Hope this helps & good luck !!
Thanks Maco, I got the engine out yesterday, today I plan to take it apart and evaluate. PO says he blew out oil filter gasket cuz he missed old one stuck to engine and ran it out of oil. I hope it isn't hurt too bad. well see... Thanks. Any advice, tips I appreciate it guys.
normally when you think loss of oil pressure, you concentrate on the main bearings.... This engine has cams that run in ALUMINUM bearings... that would be a great place to start..
Main and rod bearings look great. But... one of the rocker bridges on #3 is damaged, roller is gone and rocker was laying on top of head. Found parts of it in oil pan and in pickup screen. Then, on drivers side all 4 pistons have touched the intake valves!! Can see the witness marks on the pistons. Also one of the chain guides was broken. I hope the valves aren't bent but I'll bet they are... Well at least the bottom end is good and the cylinder wear is almost none- no ridge I can feel at all. Looks like I will prolly repair this engine. Thanks for all the help guys!!
