> a runaway grinder is no fun especially if its hunting for you
You got that right! I do not use my dremel under the car because it does not have a deadman switch and there is no way I want to be under the car using it if I drop it.
Also DON'T USE CHEAP WHEELS!!!!! I know form experience that chaep wheels get you hurt also . I work in a fab shop wear we build beams, columns, handrails and now even storm shelters so we grind alot to say the least. My boss is one that loves to go to auctions and buy junk. well he bought several hundred 4 1/2 " wheels brand new in the box. I had a few break with me . when one broke and went through the shop wall i quit using them. it made him made that we wouldnt use them anymore. he finally came to his senses tho' . he was using a 7 " grinder with a cheap wheel and it broke in half and wnet through his leg not far from his you know what. now he wont let us use them anymore. so go with a good brand . we are now using some wheels that were made for supposedly for GM workers called tyrolit . seems to be good
One problem with grinding aluminum is that powdered aluminum is explosive.
The Solid fuel boosters for the space shuttle use
powered aluminum for fuel.
THere have been a lot of fires and explosions caused by using a belt sander or grinding wheel to
gring aluminum.
I saw a PBS special some time ago. The Hindenburg was coated with powered aluminum. All this time the destruction was blamed on the Hydrogen. It was really a powered aluminum fire probably caused by static electricity.
I use face shields with safety glasses. Glasses protect your eyes, shields protect eyes, face, neck, ears and safety glasses.
A buddy of my nephew was using cheapie wheels(low speed, that his boss bought) in a body shop, wheel broke apart and he now has a glass eye. Oh yeah he wasn't wearing protection either. He's all of 25YO.
