I have the 6 disc with MP3 capability in my 2004 Screw. It plays normal "non mp3" discs fine, but its hit or miss when I put a disc full of mp3 format music in there. Sometimes, it says reading disc and then starts playing. Othertimes it says reading disc, then bad disc, then it ejects it.
Very frustrating.
By happenstance I came across a workaround that has resulted in the unit always playing the MP3 disc, even when it says its bad. Here is the step by step workaround.
1. Load MP3 disc.
2. System says "reading disc"
3. Watch the screen, right before it says "bad disc" and ejects its, the screen will go blank.
4. Press the volume button, to "power off" the unit as quickly as possible. Ideally, before the eject motor kicks in.
5. Even though the unit is off, it will still continue to eject the disc.
6. Once the disc it ejected, let it sit there for 1 second, then push it back in. (light touch, but firm).
7. When the disc gets done getting sucked back in, power on the unit by pushing the volume button.
8. Disc will play normally.
Strange but it works. And since one disc holds about 130 songs, its not like you have to go through this procedure that often.
Mine's intermittent also. Sometimes it'll play fine, other times it'll just kick the disk out for no reason with a 'bad disk' error. I thought it was my disk media, so I tried different media. Some seem to work better than others. I get some wierd skipping every once in a while too. I thought it was because of me hitting a bump whlie driving, but I noticed it did it a couple of times even on smooth road.
Software is somewhat important for burning your MP3's....
I upgraded to the latest Nero Burning Rom and it even eliminated the annoying digitzed sounds that the older version seemed to plant in the songs...
Plus I try to use the black-surfaced CD's for any type of musical recordings...a few pennies more per CD compared to the blank face spindle, but worth it to me.
I am also curious if the 2005 players have the same issue?
I think some of the 2005's have the same problem as my wife just bought a 500 and it won't play the discs either that I have burned. I have one/2 that I have been able to burn and play but haven't been able to figure out the differences to make it not say bad disc.
I jut bought a 2006 F150 Lariat. I have some of these same problems. First it takes A LONG TIME for the system to 'read the disk'. Sometimes it ejects the disk as 'bad' even though it played it previously and will play it later. I'll check out the link above and see if it can be fixed.
I have a 2006 SCREW XLT. I also have the 6 cd with MP3. Mine does the same thing. Not all the time but some of the time. Will show bad disk and eject it. I have noticed mine will skip some also. Has anyone else had a skipping problem?
my 6 cd with MP3 also skips once in awhile and will also show bad disc and then eject it, this is with regular store bought CD's. It doesn't do it all the time andhas done it with every CD that I've put in the player, so I know its not the disc.
i have not tried an extensive amount... now that it has accepted the 5 mp3 disks in the changer, i have 35 CDs worth of music in the system and don't need to change very often.... i am thinking about trying a few more times and when i take it in for the first oil change (the dealer i bought from offers $10 oil changes if you buy a new truck from them - heck i can't buy the oil for $10), also having them swap out the system... do either of you have the audiophile system? if i can pay the difference, i am wondering if it worth the upgrade to the audiophile?
Try to drop down the burn speed next time you burn a CD. Just something to try. I notice a big difference with DVD's when trying to burn at faster speeds. I normally drop it down by half and seems to fix the problem.
