1999 DRW Single Chassis Cab Bed?8ft?

I wanna put a bed on this 1999 chassis cab . Dually, 7.3 turbo single cab ... Ive read that there will be a gap between the cab and bed and also read that the rear frame would hang over and the gas tank would have to be relocated. Im not worried about the gas tank as Im gonna do an aux tank anyways 100 gallon.

Any ideas for a bed for this type of truck

Least headache would be to buy/build a flat bed that fits the truck.

Or, since it a C&C truck it's fairly easy to move the axle forward to a normal PU distance and then cut off the extra frame rails in the rear. Then a PU bed will fit, but you'll have to drill new holes to line up with the narrower C&C frame. You'll probably also need to relocate the fuel tank. IDK if a PU side mount fuel tank can be installed on a C&C truck. You'll also need to shorten the fuel/brake lines/cables, taillight wiring and driveshaft. Depending on what D-shaft you have it might need to be totally replaced if you take enough length out, like going from a 2 pc to a 1 pc. You'll need to relocate the shock mounts and overload stops if it has them. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff.

Just do a flatbed.

I agree the flat bed will be the easiest route. I have one on my 06 CC.

Lots of "Ranch Trucks" here in Montana. Pull a few dimensions on what you have and go kick around here. Should fit like a glove.

You can do a flatbed but those start at 5k. I had a CM flatbed with skirting and lower storage boxes and it was ok fot tow/street use. The issue I had was everything had to be tied down and the storage boxes were pretty tiny. So I had to put toolboxes on there which added to costs. And the side skirt/boxes sat very low killing my ground clearance so completely worthless for hunting and even some construction sites. unless you NEED a fiatbed I wouldn’t spend the money. They cost a ton and not everyone wants them when time comes to sell.

as far as options I’ve seen people put a regular bed and use a little filler piece for the gap. On one of the service trucks we swapped from a service to a regular bed before selling it (we were keeping the service bed as there was nothing wrong with it)
I just used a piece of aluminum angle metal piece painted black. I riv-nutted it to the first vertical rib on the front bed panel. Painted it white to match. From the side you couldn’t tell.

LOL @ flatbeds starting at $5K. Maybe if you want something specific and can only get it by buying new. I bought a 9ft, 2x3 tube steel framed, diamond plated deck dump flatbed with a full headboard and tall oak paneled sides for $750 on FB marketplace. I've seen basic 6/8ft, stamped steel frame, wood deck beds going for $200, nice utility bodies for $1500 and really nice welding bodies for around $2500. Even if you had to get something shipped across the country, and then add some lockable storage, it's not gonna cost anywhere near $5K if you shop around.

I was quoting a new bed not used. Yeah if you want a used bed…sure you can get it for 1/2 price of new. If you don’t mind putting th time in refurbishing it yeah you can save some money.
It’s all relative man. What works for you doesn’t work for someone else not everyone has the time tools or expertise to buy repair refurbish and install a service bed.
My truck came with a flat bed. It was nice and functional in a few ways but for my needs it was 90% worthless.
