Can anyone tell me what FORScan will or will not cover before I buy it on a 1997 F150 4.6,automatic ,two wheel abs, base model? Plus what is the best adapter for Windows 10. Will I have to buyFORScan two times if I want to use it on my 2015 Mustang GT. Can I use the same adapter on the truck and car? Thanks for any help from you FORScan users.
Airborne All The Way Every Day
Buy one of the recommended adapters if you want life to be less painful.
Only one license is needed, it's going to be tied to the computer on which it will be installed. You can use the same gear on any Ford from about 96-on, nothing extra is needed.
For the 97, it will be usable on most systems except the RABS as that system was not connected to any of the communications busses.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at the this on FORScan site OBDLINK MX+ $139.95 I just want to get the right part the first time. https://www.obdlink.com/products/obd...p/?ref=forscan Do you have any thoughts on this one? Is this all the hardware I will need? Now back to FORScan the mustang I gave to my son he will use his android so if I read you right I will need to get him his own FORScan but he can use the same OBDLINK MX+. Is this correct? One last question do you have a favorite APP?
Airborne Death from above
The OBD Link MX is a good adapter. I leave mine plugged in so I can read data at any time using the phone app. Forscan is scan tool that will read data, error codes and perform some service functions. No license is needed for these functions. Most people associate Forscan with making configuration changes like adding ccruise control or deleting start-stop. These functions require an extended license. 2-month licenses are free, annual license cost about $12. Forscan phone apps can't make any configuration changes...only read data and read/clear codes.
You 97 will have not any configuration changes possible with Forscan. The ECU is too simple. Only vehicles after 2013 or 2014 have signifcant changes possible. It is not always easy to find the proper "spredsheet" or decode how to make changes. Also many changes don't work on your vehicle or cause other problems. Forcan configuration changes really should only be made by those who read/study the details on the software and have the time and skills to troubleshoot. It is not plug-n-play like computer of phone apps.
But if you work on your own vehicles the scan tool functions are invaluable.
The MX+ is an excellent choice, it's the one I use.
I usually use either Forscan Lite or Torque Pro on android. Occasionally, I do use Forscan on Windows instead when I need its advanced features.
OK I went with the MX+ and the 1 year extended ver. of FORScan. I did that for my son he went to school at the local community college for it and can use it on the 2015 Mustang. I on the other hand will have a steep learning curve so will go with Forscan Lite or Torque Pro on android but can lean on him maybe you and the FORScan forums This ought to be fun. Maybe I will not screw up my pcm
Thank you so much for all the help
