Hey everyone! Been spending a ton of time on the front end of my truck and looking to make upgrades as I’m working. Has anyone here done the Saginaw pump upgrade on these trucks? If so how did you do it and what was the cost? After searching the deaths of the internet it seems there are no cost effective means to do so. ie: the Desolate Motorsports upgrade sits at a whopping $600 for the pump with the bracket for a 5.8L engine
Yes. There are several threads on the topic. Find an E-Series van. They came with either “v” or serpentine belt. Grab the Saginaw pump and mounting bracket from either a 5.0 or 5.8 engine. I also used the pressure hose from the van. It cost me less than $50.
Yup, E series van is the way to go. I was told I needed the van high pressure hose but was able to use my old one. Also, I didn't use the pump from the van, just the bracket, the pulley, and power steering pump cap. BBB pump from rockauto has worked good for me, nice and quite. @FordTrucks, do folks rebuild the original pumps off the vans usually? That way they have a "real" saginaw?

Reason: typo

you used the high pressure hose from your truck on the saginaw pump? that’s surprising seeing how they have different style fittings on them
After going through 2 new Motorcraft pumps ($213) in 500 miles, and tired of the constant whining noises, I found out that Lee Power Steering, Santa Clarita, California, sells a new pump with Saginaw internals in a Ford C-II housing. Absolutely a one-for-one bolt-in swap; same mount, same pulley, same hose fittings. Exactly matched the pressure and flow specs of the original pump, but I think they can build up slight variations in flow and pressure for a particular application.
Easy to bleed, won't blow fluid out if you turn lock to lock without engine running. My pump arrived with slight shipping damage to the reservoir, so I called them and they overnighted a new reservoir - took about one minute to swap it out. $250 (Dec. '22) is a lot for a PS pump compared to the typical reman pumps available everywhere, but this was so easy and so quiet I would do it again in a heartbeat! Truck is a 97 F250 HD 460 2WD.

I was told the same thing so I bought the van high pressure line before the swap then decided to see if my old one would fit and it did. Turns out they are both M16 x 1.5 for the high pressure lines.

the threads may be the same, but the saginaw uses an oring to seal while the ford pump uses a teflon washer. how does that not leak?
The 5.8L Ford Econoline factory bracket and Saginaw pump can be had at the local salvage yard for as low as $100, I'd imagine. It all depends on how much elbows grease you're willing to put in. I picked this up on eBay recently for my '93 5.8L F-250 for $400 shipped. The dude sandblasted the bracket, cleaned up the bolts, and it has a brand new pump.

I used teflon tape on the threads. No leaks so far. Only did it maybe 3 months ago on my 5.8. I just picked up another bracket and pump for my 5.0 this weekend from the junkyard: $8 for the bracket, $20 for the pump, and a $3 core. I remember the other issue was the van line came with a port for a pressure sensor which my truck didn't have. I think that's why I originally tried to fit my old line on the pump.
5.0L engines have the power steering pressure switch and 5.8L engines don’t. That wouldn’t have mattered. You simply wouldn’t have plugged it into the harnesss.
