here’s what mine looked like when I removed it maybe this will help.

… did you ever remove the backing plates? I’m betting you’ve got it on the wrong side. If it was on fwd side on drivers side and you took that backing plate off and put it on the passenger side the adjusting hole would be in the proper place.
i went through that. if i swapped the backing plates the parking brake cable would be pointed out the back of the truck and the hole location would still be off.

brakes worked before. i drove it around for awhile before tearing it down and never had a problem.
