Cam Phaser Bolt Issue
I have a 2005 5.4 3V engine, I have refreshed with new cam phasers(OEM Ford) and have had the passenger side phaser bolt back out on me. I have built hundreds of engines, from Ford to chevy to Honda high performance applications. I torqued the bolts to the suggested torque specs of 30 foot pounds, and the 90 drgree TTY. Has anyone experienced this? Should I use thread lock? any help would be great. I actually really like this stupid motor, it just pulls whatever I throw at it with ease, until now.
Thanks!
How much do you trust that torque wrench . I forgot that torque spec off hand .
If its one side I would suspect you have bad threads on cam .
Test your torque wrench . You can test it with a luggage scale . Are you sure the pins engaged the cam off phasor to cam . I know that has happened to some guys , did you use the toothed holding tool on phasor or did you use vise grips . I don't like the vice grip method . I have had touble with click torque wrenches , now i use a dial type or electronic adapter . Are your pin holes wallered out on cam .
How much do you trust that torque wrench . very much, as it's used to build precision engines regularly I forgot that torque spec off hand .

Test your torque wrench . You can test it with a luggage scale . Are you sure the pins engaged the cam off phasor to cam . Yes, I'd be surprised if they weren't as the cam phaser would be out of alignment with the chain I know that has happened to some guys , did you use the toothed holding tool on phasor or did you use vise grips . holding tool I don't like the vice grip method . I have had touble with click torque wrenches , now i use a dial type or electronic adapter . Are your pin holes wallered out on cam .
The end of the cam looks fine, and didn't feel unusual that the bolt wasn't tightening. Just not sure why it happened. at this point I feel like cramming a glob of red threadlock in it...
