2013 F150 Trans problem.

2013 F150 EcoBoost engine.
6 speed transmission. 6R80 I think.
135K miles.

Having intermittent problems with shifting out of first gear.
It may go 4 or 5 days without any issue and it may have the issue 2 or 3 times in a day.

Basically it fails to shift from first gear either while in drive or manually.
Most of the time I can tell when I'm going to have a problem because the tach moves
but the speedometer does not. I can stop, turn off the engine and restart it and
eventually (may have to do that several times) it will shift.

Recently it has taken to throwing up a wrench icon on my console screen
while driving down the road.
When that happens, it will shift but some of the display (mileage, mpg, etc) goes
blank or is filled with dashes. The check engine light never comes on.

It has been doing this now for about 2 months.
It has never downshifted unexpectedly.

I bought a ODBII and captured the following codes.
U0401 - Invalid data received from ecm/pcm "A" signal invalid.
P0720 - Output shaft speed sensor circuit. No subtype information.
P0722 - Output shaft speed sensor circuit no signal. No subtype information.

I can tell you that when I clear the codes, the speedometer and display return for
a few seconds before going south again.

I'm going to take it to a transmission shop but I wanted to get some input from you all
so I can talk intellegently to the tech.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the repair shop called me and said that, based on the history of the truck (whatever that means) as well as the codes that I gave them, the technician determined that it is the transmission range sensor and wire harness.
If I understand what he is telling me, supposedly, because the transmission doesnt know how fast the truck is going, it doesnt know when to shift. (Or something to that effect).
As expected, it did not mess up when the tech drove it and all he had to go on were the codes and "history" of the problem.
The parts are on back order from Ford and they will let me know when it comes in and when they will be installing it in the transmission. $1650.00. (I am in the wrong business!)
We'll see.

That sensor and wiring are all part of the lead frame, it's a 1 piece unit and as you've discovered, on national back order and has been for a couple years now. $1,650 seems mighty steep. They sell some refurb units on ebay as well as aftermarket brands, dunno if they're trust worthy though. When those lead frames were available they were only about $400 or so.

Yeah. Once I learned about the lead frame from here I did a little research for myself and yes they run about $400.00.
I called a couple of places (before I settled on the repair shop I took it to) to see how much they charged to replace the lead frame in a transmission just in case that's what it turned out to be.
Prices ranged from 2100 at the dealerships to 1500 at another shop. I took it to the 4.6 star rated place.
Again, we'll see how things go.

Thanks for everyones responses.
