Just bought a 2022 F-250 with 7.3 .Putting together a tool kit to keep in the truck. Is most everything on these trucks standard or metric. I just changed the oil so I know the drain plug is 15 mm. Did a search but didn't find anything. I appreciate the info.
I keep a 12v mini air compressor, gummy worm tire plug kit, led battery powered work light, cheap Harbor Freight metric wrench set, 3/8” ratchet, 3/8” metric socket set, combo screw driver, pocket knife, and a spare spark plug wire (known to fail on 7.3), two 12’ tie downs, work gloves, and a roll of blue shop towels under the back seat. The tools are in two 11” HF canvas tool bags.
fits in a lunch box:
7mm, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21.
Screw driver Phillips, flat, and socket adapter (particularly for the 7/10/12)
Decent size socket wrench with size adapters as needed
multi meter
knipex cobras
knipex pliers/wrench
lineman pliers
bailing wire
zip ties
tire plug kit
electrical tape
IR thermometer. Hit your hubs, brakes, diffs, trailer tires at gas stops on long hauls
spare fuses, especially for trailer charging circuit
extra receiver hitch pin, trailer safety pin
Couple latex gloves
$100, spare credit card
an old cellphone with charger in the armrest - 911 works with no plan
Bonus items:
tow strap or kinetic rope if you’re into that sort of thing
some water, energy bars
sweatshirt
max trax self recovery tracks
jumper cables and/or jumper pack
Portable air compressor
cordless impact wrench
The only things I've needed in the past 15 years was a roll of bailing wire, Klein pliers, 10" Channellock, 2lb hammer and a roll of trusty duct tape
That was enough to get us off the road to get a proper repair on the trailer...not a big fan of wrenching on a highway
Never had a problem with the Ford tow vehicle(s) fortunately
A set of the -C plug wires would be smart to add to your kit.
I need to write and entire list soon about my experience with my 2022 that was built in the later part of 2021. I’m almost certain it had ignition issues from the beginning and I didn’t realize it until it was bad. Then got the runaround from ford only wanting to fix what was throwing codes, and switch injectors around. Didn’t let them. Bought the -C plug wires that were originally designed for the 7.3 for harsh usage like a motor home. Now my truck runs smooth as butter. Including in parking lots at slow speeds. Have an extra set in a klein bag in case the issue ever returns.
