I broke the cover and hit it off and the bolt came off. Thought about beating it senseless 🤣. The timing chain was really really loose. I used a sawzaw and cut it what the grinder didn’t.
Timing covers back on, I got to put the bolts in their correct spots. Because it got dark and I just threw bolts that will work in so that way the sealer will have pressure to seal.

Someone I know mailed me a timing light to use. It has no screen. I’ll upload pic tomorrow. How do I use the ones without the screen? I bet this one’s from the 80s. But I’ll Google some videos I never saw any that looked like the one I’m borrowing. And cylinder #1 is the front passenger?
When I time it, do I just aim the timing light at the timing pointer? If not where do I aim it? The timing light will flash so I only see what I set the timing to right? The video I watched the guy adjusted it and he only saw say 10 on the timing tape when he set it to ten. Which way do I rotate the distributor on this engine to go BTDC?
The rule is that you retard timing by turning the distributor in the same direction as the rotor turns. You advance timing by turning opposite the direction of the rotor.
Did you watch a video? Yes you aim it at the timing pointer read what degree reading it is. Then you adjust the distributor in the direction to correct the timing to I think 10° for your truck.
I just watched some I think I’ve got it down except for one thing.
The person that let me borrow this said to use a paper clip to use to read the #1 cylinder. Do I just stick the paper clip into the wire and wrap it around the plug wire? I haven’t seen a video without the actual clip for it.
I am looking at the picture and guessing that is a 120v powered timing light. Yes a paper clip wrapped around #1 plug wire with 1 end shoved into the pick up lead of the timing light may work.
My 1980 vintage timing light uses clip on connectors to the battery and an inline connector that goes between the spark plug wire and the plug. It's ancient but still works.
Try not to get the crap shocked out of you using the one you borrowed.
It might work
Tape, or use a clothesline clamp on the wire that is supposed to have a clip
The distributor turns counterclockwise, so to advance it, you turn the distributor clockwise
Line up your pointer to the 10BTDC mark with the spout out
