I just noticed pitting on my wheels. 22 F250 XLT purchased new on 12-30-21.I tried searching but didn't see anything. I guess they are chrome over aluminum. It's kind of fine pitting but it's there. I tried scrubbing thinking I might have got road tar or something else on them, no go. Truck has just under 17,000 miles. Is this a known thing? Will Ford work with me on this?
Thanks,
Steve
Super Duty chrome wheels are PVD chrome coated, not chrome plating like old school chrome.
What happens is the coating starts to come loose from the aluminum wheel base.
You are probably seeing the start of the coating lifting from the wheel surface.
Really not much you can do to stop it, only fix is to strip the wheel and have it re-coated.

Bumper to bumper will replace if pitting. Did on my 2019 dually.
I try to keep mine clean, free of brake dust, road salts and all that. They are not chrome, so don't use a metal polish or harsh wheel cleaner on them. I use the same inexpensive soap and spray wax stuff I use on the body paint on the wheels and running boards. And I don't scrub with a brush, just a soft towel.
So far, at 18 months and 12,000 miles, parked outside, no pitting or bubbling.
My truck has to stay outside and with the rain we have been getting here in SoCal it's been hard to keep it clean. I'll take some polish to it and see if I can clean them up, if not I'll hit up the dealership.
Thanks all.

The only kind of polish you should use on them would be the same as you'd use for the paint on the body, as the PVD coating is like paint or powder coating, don't use metal polish, it has abrasives that are too harsh for the coating.
