Hi all, I have a 1983 f250 XL. There is a foot operated button on the left side of the driver's side footwear under the parking brake, I was wondering what this does or is supposed to do because it currently does not do anything.
That is your high beam switch. Turn on your headlights and try it. With the lights on, they will switch between high and low beams.
Feeling my age here. Pretty much all domestic vehicles had the foot-operated dimmer switch on the floor until the early 80s or so. I never liked it when manufacturers moved the switch up on the steering column. I kept getting my foot caught in the steering wheel.
I can't quite get bendy enough, do you do lots of yoga or something?

Some of us real old guys would ask which stomp button you talking about? The real old trucks had a stomp button for the starter too. You wouldn't want to confuse those on a dark rainy night...
I'm sorry, but I guess now it's us old guys time to laugh and say, "young kids"... and they make fun of us "old people". LOL
You may want to spray that dimmer switch with a little penetrating fluid to keep it working well.
Thinking about it, I should lube mine, it's not like I use it, ever...
When I read the first post I did laugh a little as I knew just what it was

The Hi / Lo is on the left and the start button on the right to the right or above the throttle pedal.
I am not that old to drive anything that had a starter button on the floor but think dad has a truck with one when I was a kid.

Unless you are driving a 1970ish GMC bus. Then there are three on the left: left turn signal, high beams, right signal.

I dont think I have ever seen something like that
The state trade school I went to got a new bus, late 70's, and we took the old one to a state lot for the exchange.
The old bus, late 60"s, I also dont remember seeing that and we were in the auto shop and why we got to do the exchange.

Is “state trade school” some sort of euphemism you put on a job application? Were there bars on the windows? Barbed wire and guard towers outside? For vocational training, did you make license plates?

It was a state run high school that you also learned a trade at.
Half year school the other half a trade.

Those old floor starters took plenty of coordination heel on the gas, toe on the starter button or cheat and work the gas left footed, starter button right foot all while using a manual choke on a cold start. Dad's old dodge mail van with a flathead 6. Built with heavy steel plate and getting 5 mpg down hill with the wind...those were the days.

Which state? Most high schools I know about are locally run by a school district/board.
Sounds like East Germany before the wall came down...
https://wright.cttech.org/
It is in Stamford, CT.
It is a public school but falls under the state rules not the city.
There are 17 Tech schools in the state.
I just looked the site over quickly and they added a lot since I been but did not see anything about Tool & Die that was the other trade I would have gone in.
Also did not see printing, chem or electronics but might be under I.T.?
