I've never been satisfied with the factory nozzles. No matter how long I hold the button in, there's never enough fluid coverage on the windshield. The wipers drag across dry dirt, scratching the windshield. I've even sacrificed factory nozzles, trying to get them to spray a fan, instead of a laser beam. Couldn't get it to work. So I installed these...
I commend you for having the ability to admit to having a "weak spray stream"? Good thinking on the mod, but I am going to toss out a couple of questions. I am sure you did these things, so these questions are more for the masses that also have weak spray stream.
Did you try a new repop pump 1st? Did you flush the tank and lines with vinegar? Sound like you tried changing the crimp on the OEM spray nozzle. Did you think about leaving the old squirters hooked up and use the new ones too, to get a triple spray action? I commend you being man enough to drill holes in your hood.
Why did you not get the spray nozzles with the little lights built in? Bling bling. Lol
No lights! Yeah, the pump and hoses are all new. The problem wasn't a lack of PSI. it was a lack of coverage. Like I said, the wipers were dragging dry grit across half the stroke before they hit water. That's a big deal for me, because I regularly got quite a bit of mud on the windshield. Now the entire windshield gets soaked. And yep, I crimped and ruined a few OEM nozzles, to no avail.
I was talking to Yamhill Ranger earlier today, and he pointed out some aftermarket nozzles that attach to the wiper arms. I probably should have done that. But I'm happy with what I've got. That hood is getting replaced later (hint, hint Rich), so I wasn't worried about drilling holes in it. And quite frankly, I wouldn't hesitate to drill holes in a pristine hood in order to get what I want.
I thought some mini "chicken lights" on the hood would be cool. Yes I have seen the spray nozzles that clip on the w/s arm, now that it gets mentioned. Yes when ever you can find the time to head up this way (while going to Kansas to hunt with your buddies). I should have all your big parts waiting on you. As long as you give me plenty of heads up. Hood, fenders, doors, and what else ends up on your list.
In the 80's Ford used what they called Fluidic windshield washer system. Only had 1 nozzle on the cowl, had a new XR7 with it, that thing would drench the windshield before the wiper could move with a huge fan pattern. I think they fell out of favor since they could plug from lime buildup if someone added water.
There's times when I wish I had a 50 gallon ag type sprayer in the bed, attached to a perforated hose above the windshield. I could zip tie the hose to Rich's LED chicken lights.
Agghhh I thought you got those new nozzles to install on the old nozzles in the cowl! I see them on the hood now.
I’ve wondered if someone could 3d print some little duckbill to glue over the factory nozzles. Just to get a fan action. If y’all remember I made a thread about big cleaner last year with pretty much the same problem. A fist size spot on each side of the window gets sprayed, it drips down, but the wipers down spread it around. So you get two port holes in your bug windshield.
