The 99 F350 in my signature is used primarily to tow my fifth wheel in the signature. After being on a 6 month 14k miles trip running coast to coast and border to border the Banks muffler that came with the stainless steel header kit is getting pretty loud and I suspect pulling that 11k pounds of trailer has produced enough heat to burn out the internals of the muffler. I'm pretty open to changing out the muffler and tail pipe if needed. The cat is an after market that is 3" in and 3" out as the Banks muffler is 3" in and 3.5: out to a 4" out tip. The Banks muffler never was real quiet and has really become loud enough that we can't enjoy the radio anymore. What are some reasonably quiet exhaust systems that can handle heavy towing use? Suggestions on a good quiet muffler?
I can tell you to stay away from Flowmaster. Good friend just sold his V10 pickup that had a Flowmaster on it. It was not quiet! He had a completely stock exhaust, just needed a muffler replacement, and that is what the muffler shop recommended. It was not terrible with the cruise set, just tooling down the road, but anytime it was above 2500-3000 rpm, no bueno.
