The F350 in my signature is in need of a new muffler as it's getting too noisy for my taste. Some years ago I installed the complete Banks exhaust system including all exhaust (3.5") piping, muffler (3.5" in & out) and Automind chip. This one
It has been used primarily to tow my 5th wheel Montana trailer that weighs 11.5k loaded. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good muffler.
How quiet a muffler can be is directly proportional to its size. If you’re looking for a direct bolt in swap with no exhaust modifications / fab needed, then you’re not going to get much quieter.
If the Banks muffler is still in good shape, you could add another muffler in series with it to further reduce sound. A lot of the drag & drive event participants ( events like hot rod drag week or sick week ) will run four mufflers ( two on each bank ) to get their 1000hp race engines to be quiet enough to drive on the street between tracks.

The Banks Muffler when first installed wasn't very loud at first. In past 10 years truck wasn't used a lot but for an occasional towing the 5th wheel to a campground locally. This past July we started a trip across the US to visit family and I've worked the engine pretty hard over the past 5000 miles and can tell the muffler is getting louder and to the point it's causing issues with the head "chef". Last word I heard on the subject was "get a new muffler or a new chef, your call", thus my post on mufflers. I will see if there is room for a second muffler.
