I don't have my Parts books at work but "21C-50878" looks like it might be a part number for the frame or crossmember?

Fade, the frame number is often stamped very light. It may be necessary to lightly scrub the top of the frame rail with fine steel wool and then use a light held at a sharp angle to make the serial number show. It will be in the area where the motor mount attaches to the frame on the passenger side (normally)
It should be identical to the *88RT 62355*
Funny you should mention "crossmember" Rich, because that's EXACTLY where that number is located. I'll go back out there and hunt for the serial number again. Thanks a million!
And that is precisely where I picked up that "21C" number. I was fully expecting to find the "88RT" number on this truck because I found it easily on the "white one."

mtflat, it's interesting about the s/n location as I found the one for my white truck on the left (driver) side of the frame.
I'm going to have to get the taco sauce (diesel fuel & trans fluid) on some steel wool and flush it out.
Gotta say, I'm awfully encouraged by yours and Rich's comments re the crossmember p/n.
I haven't tried to keep track of left vs. right frame rail stampings, but I estimate 10% are stamped on driver's side rail with the majority on the passenger side.

Your yellow truck appears to be F5 cab and sheet metal (or, the emblems, at least) installed on an F2/3 chassis. The argent grille and lack of stainless trim suggests it may be 49/50. It could be a hodge-podge of parts from many sources to build a truck. Only more forensic investigation will tell. The frame is considerably shorter and lighter duty than the white truck. It also has the Dana floating axle and 8 lug hubs. The frame could be from any 48-52 F2/3 truck. The stamped chassis number will tell the tale, if you can find it.
Early 48's had the serial number stamped on the left side, as that's how Ford's earlier vehicles were done. Sometime during 48 model year it got moved to the right front as seen in the pic above.
Good eye Wayne. Only thing I'd question is the cowl/firewall tag doesn't get changed very often with a cab switch. Although if the firewall is red, it's possible the cab and front end are from different trucks - making it a real mix of pieces... Interesting puzzle!

This is the fun part of the hobby for me, the forensic investigation. I'd really like to know the number on the yellow truck chassis.

Ask and ye shall receive, Wayne. Found the S/N on the RH side of the frame next to the motor mount as was suggested earlier. Also found, on the RH motor mount member, another "21C" which I'll bet is one digit removed from the LH one.
Okay.. now for the big S/N reveal: *88RY62355*
Well, this just gets more interestinger and interestinger. Are the frame and cab a pair or are they brothers from a different mother who JUST HAPPEN to have the same sequence number?
