Remove heater assembly under dash

I'm trying to remove the black heater assembly case so I can clean behind it and replace the firewall cover. I found two bolts underneath it but I can't seem to find where else this is attached. Anyone know how to remove this? This is on a 1990 standard cab ford f-150 5.0.

Did you disconnect the hoses going to the heater core assembly ?

Here are some photos of an Ebay unit that is similar.

There are 4 nuts on the engine side of the firewall that need to be removed.

I can't tell you how to go about this in an orderly fashion.
I removed the entire heater assembly out of a 1996, which is substantially the same set up.
The easy part was the 3 or 4 nuts/bolt. If memory serves me there was one inside at the passenger foot well and three nuts under the hood.
Less than 1/2 hour to get the outer half of box detached from truck.
The inside is a different story. What I had to do to get the inside half detached was not something I would have done to anything but a wrecking yard truck. I had to pry, pull and twist the dash etc to make clearance. Still took over half hour doing this the wrong way.

Hopefully you find a better way to do it than I did. It will probably take longer than you think.
Good luck!

EDIT:
looking at picture again I see you have your dash off the truck.
If you have removed the 4 nuts/bolts on passenger side and electric and vacuum lines the rest should come out of there.
I can go out to the garage and recheck my interior side box to see if there was some attachment point that I have forgotten about. Let me know

Interior: There were two bolts along the bottom edge and a bolt attaching the defrost near windshield

Firewall side of interior box: two bolts on left under heater core tubes (hard to reach behind fender), two nuts/bolts to right side of where evaporator mounts

Thanks a bunch that is super helpful. It's pretty gunked, and I think I missed the small one in between. I'll give this a shot tomorrow. Any idea how to get to the one in the top right corner of the foam in your picture? I can't see where that one is in the engine bay.

The nut in top right corner of foam was right in plain sight. On the 92-97 trucks it is a double nut One holds box to the wall and the other nut holds the map sensor to the box

Thanks for all the help. The bolts were in such rough shape I ended up braking the housing as well. Have to find a new one, but at least it's out!
