P1450/Evap sys Not Ready

I have read your answers to some of the P1450 questions. Thanks. I have exp this same code on occasion. Recently my ck eng light came on again and I assumed it was the same thing. Before I had time to ck it the light went out by it self. I did not think this was possible. When I put my scanner on it showed P1450 "Pending" code. I cleared it. Now my problem is the evap sys will not go back to a READY state. I have driven the truck about a half tank of gas and all the other monitors show ready. I have tried the new gas cap trick and have followed the t/s in the ser manual. The cansiter vent valve works good and the screen and plumbing have been blown out. Do you know what parameters the pcm looks at to determine that the sys is ready? Any help wolud be appreciated. I need this sys to show ready to pass emission insp in my state. Thanks

I dont have my book at hand now, but I think that your talking about a moniter readyness code only. The best way i found to get this to reset, is to make sure all the other moniters are in the ready state. Make sure the truck is at least 1/2 full but less than 3/4 full of gas. DO NOT CLEAR THE CODES WITH THE SCAN TOOL. Let the truck set overnite. In the am, start the truck, and wait 15 seconds, then take it on the road. drive a steedy speed of about 60mph for 10 to 15 min. Your moniter should show set, or ready, or complete when you get back to the shop. If clear the codes you must complete the entire drive cycle precedure over, by driveing the truck in different situations such as city, highway. When its hot outside, it seems to take longer to reset. Once you start in the am dont turn the key off till your done. I have a reset prociedure for the different moniters, i will try to find it. Good luck

I gave you the reset prociedure for the catlyst moniter. For the evap moniter, try this. Gas in tank 1/2 to less than 3/4. Hook up your scan tool, and go to system readyness test. Jack up the truck at the rear end. use jack stands to support the truck on both sides at the rear. You will need to run the truck in drive, for about 10 mins. You must keep a steedy speed at different speeds from 25mph to about 45mph. hold about 2min at each speed level. I have a lot of traffic so it is better for me to try to get it set in the shop. On this test you, i think it takes about 10mins to get it set. I will bring my reset prociedure home and reply if you dont get it set, or i need to change info. My memorie is not as good as it used to be

Hi 12979 and welcome to the forum

I'm wondering if the EVAP monitor will complete itself as long as you have a pending code. A pending code is a fault that the PCM has seen but not enough times yet to turn on the check engine light.
bosshoss do you have emissions testing there? We dont have testing here so usually as long as we dont have any trouble codes we send the vehicle out. The monitors will complete after the customer drives it a while so we dont worry about it.

Hey Racerguy. Yes we have emissions testing. The readyness codes are not a problem till we have to do a safety/emissions test. Your right on the pending code. We could use some more info on the truck in question like the miles, has it been tuned up recently.

Thanks for your reply, but I solved my problem yesterday. I found it in the mnl but not very easliy. The reason the evap sys would not go to a ready is because the montor test was never initializing. When i originally cleared the pending code I turned the key back off. You cannot do this. The book says that to get the evap monitor to enter its test you must perform a pcm reset, leave the key " ON " and start the vehicle and then drive it for its drive cycle. I had no code to clear at the time so i had to induce one so that I could go back and do the pcm reset. Hope this helps others out in the future. thanks
