Hello everyone:
We are a group of Classic Ford trucks enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf area keeping old ford trucks on the road.
One of our group members owns a 60 Ford F100 saying his truck does not have a driver's door lock from outside, just the passenger door. Some said Ford truck did not come with driver's door lock till about 1963. I read a lot about ford trucks, saw lots of pics and catalogs, never seen a mention about that, Maybe it was an option, wish to have a clarification on that. I appreciate any inputs.
I think this has been brought up before. At one time, the drivers side door lock was considered an option. People parallel parked, slid across the seat, and exited on the passenger/curb side, supposed to be safer that way. Then, reverse the operation for re-entering and pulling away. I doubt very many people opted to delete the drivers side lock, just the odd skin-flint. Apparently, 1962 was about the end of that, at least in the U.S. , according to old threads I read on the topic.
I have a few Salesmans Facts Books and the 1958 edition that I just grabbed talks about the "Outstanding Exterior Features" category within the "Custom Cab Features". Last in that list is "Door locks on both doors."
The information for the Standard Cab doesn't mention this so it could at least imply that you only got one lock on those models so equipped. If I find anything more definitive, I'll post it.
