2000 4x4 powerstroke

I just purchased a 2000 4x4 powerstroke. The truck is really nice. Only 36K on it. I bought the diesel because on the used market the diesel and v10 are about the same price. Any quirks I need to look at. Also, how often do I need to drain the fuel water seperator, and change the fuel filter. I know the manual says ever 5k.

thanks

Where do YOU live. I couldn't even find a used PSD. Well, I did find one...it was 10K MORE than my V10.

I'd post this question in the diesel forum also. A user named The Diesel Dude works at Navistar helping to build the PSD. He can answer pretty much any question you have.
Congrats on your new PSD!

Don't mess with the fuel filter. If you make the mistake of going back to Ford, they won't touch the filter till 15K. I drain the fuel filter every oil change (5K). It's no big deal. I put an old piece of heater hose over the drain line and use an oold oil can to drain the water/fuel.

As for the filter 15K and don't forget any water/gelling from cold weather will effect the perfroamnce of you diesel. One of the members posted an idiots guide to draining/changing the filter. You can buy good filters thru Amsoil, WIX, Fordparts.com (expensive) or best buys at Geno's garage www.genosgarage.com. Basic instructions, drain the water, unscrew the cap of the filter, you will need a strap wrench, Pay attention to the location of the O-ring (bottom of filter in a slot) and the orientation of the gasket. The filter pulls straight up and needs a little pull to get it off the spindle. After that push new filter on, drop in gasket, screw and tighten cap, start. Check for leaks, yada...yada...yada. Also check your coolant system every 15K. Again I went to the diesel page nad bought the coolant additive and tet strips. After 15K I needed to add 8 oz. to bring the coolant up to spech. Any other info you might need send me an e-mail at pumillofhsd009 at earthlink.net I will warn you I am a quasi gear head and this is my first diesel, but have found that working on the Ford is very gear-head friendly. Plus major quodo's to this site and the members, great source of info and instructions. They have helped me out with "dumb" questions.:-X12
