carbon walnut blasting

When I start in a few weeks changing timing parts thinking of cleaning valves while there and new plugs. So far have bought a lot of new parts so when I remove the old new will replace it. With 230000 on the clock I imagine the worst in carbon. My truck was a fleet vehicle so probably only had what broke repaired and basic service done. I'm sure of this. It sounds terrible when running ie, rattling and cold start chatter. I am hoping its not eating the front cover. But my question is what walnut blaster have you used. I'm thinking of getting a good one as may have to repeat in a few more years and may also upgrade truck in future. Talk me out of this. lol

I picked up a cheap blast cabinet from harbor freight for things of this nature although it's only been used so far for stripping gun metal for cerakoting and what not. You can use any media in it including walnut shells and it comes with an extra blast nozzle.

You're going to need a good air compressor to run it.

I’m here to talk you out of it. In two different dealerships I’ve worked at since the ecoboost came out I’ve never seen a vehicle nor have I met someone in person that’s seen a driveability issue caused by excessive carbon build up on valves.

A tech group I’m in some guys have talked about those issues with the 2.0 eco and the 2.3 in the Focus ST. The person who has told us the most about how carbon is gonna ruin all the engines is the BG rep, who conveniently enough sells a product to prevent/cure it.

Gotta love direct injection for that alone.
