When I lived in Manitoba, the government insurance scam, (MPI) was big on putting immobilizer technology into vehicles that did not use encoded keys, like Ford PATS does for newer models. I think they used products from this supplier. https://www.mastergard.com/home
This was a system that disabled the cranking, ignition and fuel system in your vehicle. Installation involved locating the necessary circuits and installing the relay contacts supplied by the immobilizer into the circuit. All wiring was black and the installation instructions contained tips on how to make the wiring look factory so would be thieves would be slowed down in trying to bypass the immobilizer installation.
This is reaching back 10 to 15 years as PATS and similar systems are now commonplace. I don't think they would stop a determined thief, nor would they stop anyone from loading up your ride on a rollback, but the technology is sound. I currently live next door in Saskatchewan and occasionally one of these Manitoba vehicle makes it up here. The new owner will throw away the mysterious plastic tag on the keychain and miraculously, the vehicle will no longer start.
I’ll look into that too. I’ll probably do a kill switch also so if they do get past that then they have to find the kill switch. Knowing how easy it is to steal these trucks.
