Need a simple and cheap anti-theft device

Hey guys
I'm looking for an simple anti-theft device. Basically something to make the truck imobile. I'm thinking a toggle switch tied into the starter solenoid wire then mounted in an inconspicious spot. Losing your truck is far worse than losing a jukebox and a few personal items. IMO. I know some of you guys have done something similiar, just looking for a little direction!

I use a hidden toggle switch on all my vehicles - statistically it is the most effective deterrent for theft and it is cheap. Mine are set up to permit me to flip it on and start - then flip it off and drive away which eliminates the trying to remember aspect. All folks should prepare for more theft - parts, etc. . . for 7.3s are valuable. My DP Tuner has a disable mode (I imagine they all do) as well.

Thanks for the reply! Now to see if I can locate the wire in the cab instead of tapping in under the hood. I considered an alarm system, but the truck stays in my garage when I'm not driving it. I very seldom leave it parked in an area where theft is a prob. I'd probably forget how to operate it(alarm) anyway, besides who pays attention to a horn blowing.

another guy on this site puts a button on the wire for the foot brake.

You have to hold down the button to get the transmission out of park.

That's a thought! But I'd hate for the dirtball to get that far!

I use the Shifter lock out. I love it because I can leave my truck running, with the keys in and walk away fairly sure that no one can drive off with it. For ease and reliability, the starter is best to disable, however fuel pump and ignition disables are very handy.

I do have to disagree about disables being the most effective anti-theft. Once they are in, it's probably so, but the visual deterrence aspect of a flashing light will reduce a thief's desire to get in your vehicle. If you are concerned about it, you need to layer your anti-theft. Get an alarm with multiple LED or pick up a few varad strips, don't forget to alarm your hood and something for the bed (mag switch for tailgate would be easy). The alarm should have a starter kill built in, and if you take most of the dash apart to put it in, a thief would have to take that much apart to bypass it. Then you can start with fuel or ignition disables.

Around here I'd worry more about my interior/stereo getting jacked which may not be worth an insurance claim. I've got enough insurance that I'd be loving life if my '72 powerstroke got stolen. You know you can add more insurance for fancy accessories under most insurance policies.

While not as sophisticated, you can make something similar with a trip to radio shack. Pick up a relay and a Magnetic Reed Switch (normally open), and a magnet. Wire it so, 85 to ground, 86 to reed switch and reed switch to power. 87 to key side starter (or ignition wire) and 30 to the truck side of that same wire and cut in between them. The way this would work is your magnet will have to be near the sensor for the relay to connect the wire you interrupted. I wouldn't use this for the ignition wire because if the magnet falls away from the switch, the ignition will turn off. For the starter wire, the magnet only needs to be in place while you turn the motor over. You can hide the switch under the ash tray or behind the plastic dash panel.

Yea,there not heavily promoted (which is probably a good thing)Quality product though.
Call and talk with Greg 800-382-7233 he can answer all your questions and was a great guy to deal with tell him John with the Superduty and Focus told you about the Cyclops system.
I bought two one for my superduty and one for my car if you order both at the same time he will even program all the remotes to work on both automobiles.
